A strategic collaboration between Hitachi and Penske Corporation, a transportation company that operates one of the largest and most diverse fleets of electric trucks in the U.S., aims to advance the future of EV charging infrastructure.
Penske has successfully built a prototype network of charging stations in Southern California using Hitachi Energy’s innovative grid-to-plug charging system, the Grid eMotion Fleet™ solution, as part of its effort to fully electrify its commercial fleet.
Penske aims to expand this infrastructure across its organizational ecosystem to reduce its environmental footprint, thereby joining the United States’ targets to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050. (2)
Hitachi’s Grid-eMotion Fleet™ not only brings large-scale EV charging from niche to mainstream but also facilitates distributed charging for multiple vehicles at once. Moreover, it leverages direct current system technology that easily fits into smaller parking areas.
However, this transition to mobility electrification is only half the battle. Complete fulfillment of sustainable transportation efforts will also mean optimization of the entire value chain, from building a smarter grid infrastructure to enabling predictive fleet maintenance or even the optimization of vehicle routes using advanced digital technologies.
